Used Vehicle Inspections

In Alberta, unless stated otherwise, used vehicles are sold "as is". Simply put, this means that any post-sale flaws or defects with a used vehicle are the complete responsibility of the buyer. It is therefore, extremely important that buyers do a complete inspection before finalizing an agreement to purchase. If, after a personal inspection, you're still unsure, its always a good idea to get the opinion of a licensed mechanic. A couple of hundred dollars spent on an inspection by a professional can give peace of mind or could save you from purchasing a vehicle with costly or unsafe defects.
The Alberta Motor Association, offers inspections for members and non-members alike through select AMA approved repair facilities. A buyers inspection includes a 140 point inspection and diagnosis that covers overall engine performance, electrical, exhaust, starting and cooling systems, brakes, steering as well as a test drive. The cost for this is less than $150 and is discounted for AMA members. For further detail check the AMA website.
